Fort Irwin's Theater of War by Amy MacWilliamson.
Was your training like this? Mine was not. I remember a couple of white guys hiding in the woods firing a fake AK47 at me.

I joined the Army Reserves in 2001 at the age of 17. I found myself in Balad, Iraq from 2004-2005. I walked around Camp Anaconda and parts of Iraq with a camera in one hand and a notebook in the other. These are my scribbles about my experience in Iraq and returning home.

In early '05, my BDE from the 101st went to JRTC in Fort Polk, Louisiana. There was no fake blood and guts, but they did have real Iraqi's living in makeshift villages. "Good Good's" by day, and RPG's and IED's at night.
"Affectionately" referred to as The Box. Right. One E-6 told me he had been there seven times, and that he'd rather spend six months in Iraq than one at NTC. I didn't understand him until I spent min both, and he was right.
