Spc. Monica Brown on 60 Minutes.

Brown was on 60 Minutes talking about her experience and being awarded the Silver Star. They also talked to a few male officers about women in combat.

However, 60 Minutes titled their article, "How Pvt. Monica Brown Won A Silver Star." Do you win a Silver Star?

Check it out here.

I just came from a formation that awarded (among other things) an AAM to two female soldiers who qualified sharpshooter or expert with all unit weapon systems. Many of the male EM qualified expert with the M4, M249, M240B and M2HB, but they did not receive the same award.

I think it is an issue of combat arms having low expectations, of female soldiers.

However, I will never argue with awards given to a medic treating soldiers on the battle field.

Can we learn to expect the same level of performance from male and female soldiers? The question of the century for this army.

This is the type of woman that the Army should be promoting as a hero. Not Jessica "I got captured cause I was curled up in the fetal position" Lynch. I don't get the emphasis on her age. Would she not receive the honor if she was 30? Are 18 year olds expected to NOT do their job in the Army?
